Dance Diaries- Breathless

I wouldn't have posted a video like this otherwise. Simply because it was an unique session where I didn't practice for a single class and totally " winged" it. But enjoyed it neverthless! " Breathless" ( the song to which the dance has been choreographed) was sung by one Mr. Shankar Mahadevan (who happens to be a very famous singer in India) in ONE BREATH. Its a love song where the lover reminisces the moments spent with his beloved only to lose it all at the end!
This song has special memories for me. I used to listen to it almost everyday while dancing during my newly married days in NJ in 2002. Not having much to do , not knowing many people , dancing to this song along with others was my effective way of passing time then. Every time I listen to it, it brings back memories of those NJ days and memories of my emotions then, mostly a mixture of terrible homesickness , wondering why the heck I chose to move across the world so far from home but also at the same time being super excited as a brand new bride and enjoying all the adventures that moving to a brand new country brings in. I used to always wish then that some day I can dance to this in a properly choreographed manner.
I cannot believe that my wish came true 15 yrs later! Haha!
Learning this choreography was also new to me given that it focused so much on "abhinayas" or " expressions" rather than "adavus" or " steps". My initial resistance to it surprised me! Also its such a fast pace that you have to learn to tune in to it word after word as they hit you fast , listening keenly while also showing the expressions at the same pace.
I'm hoping I can practice on this soon and try dancing to it again by myself much better.
But thought shall share this till then for those I know who will truly enjoy it.
Thanks to Krithi R for her choreography and encouraging us all towards trying out something new.

Of Weddings and Their Anniversaries

https://www.facebook.com/sangi.shankar/posts/10214778902962911 Of Weddings and Their Anniversaries: "Celebrating with the love of my life. Here's to life-long true love. My hearts flutter every-time I see you." These words don't speak to me anymore as I celebrate today my 16th wedding anniversary. 16 years back I got married without much of an idea as to what exactly it was that I was getting into. Life-long companionship & security were probably the top logical reasons. And of course heady, Shahrukh Khan types romance and love pulled me too as I have just 22 yrs. But now after 16 years, I think I have a much better idea of what it is. Or at least I can somewhat claim to. And in this much better idea of what marriage is, a big portion is also a better idea of what is not. And top 2 things that figure in that list are the words " love" and "happiness". These 2 are the most over-rated words in the English language. We are misled fro...

Of Age Old Traditions and Memories

#mystory , #Ofageoldtraditionsandmemories , #Modernmadisaarumami Yesterday was a special day in our family with us celebrating the death anniversary of my deceased FIL. The ceremony known as the ShrAdham is a special remembrance event of not only him but 2 generations before too . We not only prepare and offer food to the souls but also acknowledge and are grateful for everything they did for us. Wishing them the best for their lives wherever they are. The dress code for this is generally the madisaaru for the women and the panchakacham for the men. Both are a few yards of cloth wrapped around the body since traditionally in India one's garments were never "worn" as much as wrapped around the body in different ways. The madisaaru or the nine yard sari especially  is not a dress code as much as was the daily wear of all women in India 2 generations back. It's worn in different styles across India and has diffn names to it but essentially nine yards of cotton o...
